About The Project

The “One SNL a Day” project officially kicked off on June 27, 2018 by “Stooge”, a diehard Saturday Night Live fan. Stooge’s love for SNL began years earlier when they posted online reviews of the show in the more traditional sense (i.e. reviewing each new episode of the show shortly after it airs). For three years, Stooge watched & reviewed an episode of the show once a day, going in chronological order from the very first episode ever.

Stooge credits reviewer The Wicker Breaker as the inspiration behind this project.  He’s been doing the whole “post about one SNL episode a day in chronological order” thing since January 2017.

In April 2021, Stooge formally announced his retirement from reviewing episodes. A dedicated community of SNL fanatics decided to join forces to help complete Stooge’s project. We hope to follow in his footsteps and continue what commenter CJPhilly described as a comprehensive take of 40+ years of American pop culture history.

Here’s what to expect from our episode reviews:

  • Each episode will be reviewed by a different contributor.
  • Each segment will be reviewed individually in each episode we cover.
  • Each segment we review will be accompanied by a synopsis from Frank Serpas III’s SNL episode guide, Saturday Net.
  • The reviews will be written in “real-time”, meaning each segment review will be us typing out all the opinions/observations going on through our head as we’re watching the segment play out.
  • Segments will be rated on a scale of 1-5 stars.
  • Musical performances will be reviewed by contributor Blue.
